Zoho Founder Sridhar Vembu Blames Software Job Market Woes on Systemic Issues, Not AI

Sridhar Vembu, Chief Scientist and Founder of Zoho, attributes the current challenges in the software job market to deeper systemic issues rather than artificial intelligence taking over jobs — at least for now.

In a detailed post on X, Vembu, who has been in the software industry for three decades, explained that the sector’s inefficiencies have accumulated over time due to excessive venture capital, private equity, and IPO-driven funding.

This overcapitalization, he argued, has artificially inflated the software industry, resulting in duplicated IT systems, overhiring, and misplaced incentives — ultimately contributing to the sector’s ongoing struggles.
