Vietnamese electric vehicle manufacturer VinFast is accelerating its expansion into Asia, with plans to launch a car assembly plant in India by June and another in Indonesia by October. The strategic pivot comes as the company shifts focus from the U.S. market, where progress has been slower than expected—even before the added uncertainty of potential tariffs.
“We’ll be concentrating more on Indonesia, India, and the Philippines, alongside our home market in Vietnam,” said Pham Nhat Vuong, founder of VinFast and chairman of parent company Vingroup.
Once laser-focused on the American market, the EV startup is now recharging its global strategy to target faster-growing, high-potential Asian markets.
