Tata Play, a leading Direct-to-Home (DTH) operator, has started removing channels from Sony Pictures Networks India (SPNI) from its subscriber packages, reigniting a dispute reminiscent of last year’s clash between the two.
Sources indicate that SPNI is pushing for a 10–15% increase in annual subscription fees—an ask Tata Play is resisting, citing challenges such as rising customer churn and stagnant average revenue per user (ARPU). The disagreement has once again brought tensions between content providers and distributors to the forefront.
