Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate the iconic Chenab and Anji Khad railway Arch in Jammu and Kashmir’s Reasi district on June 6, marking a historic moment in Indian infrastructure and connectivity. These engineering marvels are crucial links connecting the Kashmir Valley with the rest of the country via the national railway network.
The highlight of the inauguration is the Chenab Bridge, celebrated as the world’s highest railway arch bridge, towering between Bakkal and Kauri villages. This monumental structure stands at a height five times greater than Delhi’s Qutub Minar and even surpasses the Eiffel Tower in Paris by several meters—an extraordinary feat of engineering in a challenging Himalayan terrain.
The Anji Khad Bridge, India’s first cable-stayed railway bridge, is another milestone in the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project, ensuring all-weather rail connectivity to the valley.
This visit also marks Prime Minister Modi’s first official trip to Jammu and Kashmir following the recent Pahalgam terror attack and the subsequent Operation Sindoor, lending the event both developmental and strategic significance.
