India to Set Temperature Limits on ACs

In a move aimed at curbing excessive energy use, the Indian government is planning to introduce regulations that would set maximum and minimum temperature limits for air conditioners used in homes, offices, and even vehicles. This announcement was made on Tuesday by Union Power and Urban Affairs Minister Manohar Lal Khattar.

The initiative is part of broader energy efficiency efforts and is expected to significantly reduce unnecessary power consumption across sectors.

In addition to this, the minister also unveiled a substantial ₹5,400 crore Viability Gap Funding (VGF) package to support 30 GWh of battery energy storage projects. This funding aims to bolster India’s renewable energy infrastructure and ensure a more stable and sustainable power supply.
