The Karnataka government, on Tuesday, issued a draft notification proposing a uniform ceiling of ₹200 (inclusive of taxes) on movie ticket prices across all theatres and multiplexes in the state.
This move is expected to put multiplex major PVR-Inox under considerable strain, given Karnataka’s importance to its business operations.
According to Karan Taurani, Media Executive VP at Elara Capital, Karnataka is home to 215 of PVR-Inox’s 1,743 screens—making up roughly 12.3% of its total screen count. The state also contributes around 8% of Hindi film box office revenues and 10% of total collections, with the average ticket currently priced at ₹260.
