Bengaluru Airport Earns Prestigious Level-2 Accessibility Accreditation

Kempegowda International Airport Bengaluru (BLR Airport) has become the first airport in India to earn Level-2 Accreditation under the Airports Council International’s (ACI) Accessibility Enhancement Accreditation (AEA) programme, according to airport officials. This achievement places Bengaluru Airport in an exclusive group of global airports recognized for integrating accessibility into their strategic planning, policies, and passenger experience.

The AEA programme is a unique global initiative that benchmarks and advances accessibility in aviation by evaluating facilities, services, and governance, particularly for Persons with Reduced Mobility (PRMs) and Persons with Disabilities (PwDs). As part of this accolade, BLR Airport has implemented notable initiatives like the Sunflower Lanyard scheme for travelers with hidden disabilities and India’s first dedicated sensory room for neurodivergent passengers.

A dedicated accessibility committee and ongoing staff training ensure empathetic passenger assistance and continuous infrastructure improvements. The Chief Operating Officer of Bangalore International Airport Ltd (BIAL), Satyaki Raghunath, emphasized that accessibility at BLR is more than infrastructure; it reflects the vision of making travel inclusive, seamless, and a positive experience for every passenger.

This Level-2 Accreditation strengthens Bengaluru Airport’s role as a leader in inclusive air travel, with ongoing plans to deepen collaborations for a universally accessible, barrier-free travel environment
