Indian Railways is set to introduce longer Vande Bharat trains, expanding them to up to 20 coaches on high-demand routes as part of a new plan based on occupancy rates. Officials revealed that three existing 16-coach trains will be converted to 20-car configurations, while another four 8-coach trains will be upgraded to 16 cars to better serve passenger needs. At present, 144 Vande Bharat trains operate nationwide, with occupancy rates reaching 102.01% in 2024-25 and 105.03% in the current financial quarter. Additionally, 10 Vande Bharat Sleeper trains are under production to further enhance travel options.
