Andhra Pradesh is set to develop a “Space City” in Tirupati for private satellite launches and two large-scale defence manufacturing hubs in Madakasira, with a total investment of Rs 3,000 crore. The state government has entrusted Skyroot Aerospace—a startup founded by former ISRO scientists that specializes in cost-effective launch vehicles for small satellites—with the creation of the Tirupati space city. Skyroot Aerospace will invest Rs 400 crore to establish this facility across 300 acres, and the location spans Routhusuramala, BS Puram, and Kottapalem villages. This integrated site will be dedicated to rocket manufacturing, assembly, testing, and storage, aiming to support India’s growing private space sector.
The State Investment Promotion Board approved the project on August 28, after which it received cabinet clearance on September 6. These initiatives align with Andhra Pradesh’s ambition to become a prominent aerospace and defence manufacturing hub, establishing the infrastructure needed for advanced technology and private enterprise in the sector.
