Torrential overnight rain crippled Kolkata on Tuesday, triggering widespread waterlogging and severely disrupting road and air travel across the city. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) cautioned that more rain is likely in the coming days due to a low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal, urging residents to remain vigilant.
Airlines advised passengers to travel with extra time and monitor flight updates as operations were impacted amid flooded approach roads and congestion at the airport. Low-lying neighbourhoods, including Garia Kamdahari, Jodhpur Park, Kalighat, and Ballygunge, recorded over 250 mm of rainfall, according to the Kolkata Municipal Corporation, exacerbating gridlock and inundation across several pockets of the city.
