IndiGo’s board chairman Vikram Singh Mehta has issued a statement refuting claims that the airline intentionally orchestrated recent flight cancellations to pressure the government into relaxing pilot rest-hour regulations. The chairman emphasized that the disruptions resulted from a combination of operational challenges rather than strategic pressure tactics.
In a video statement released on Wednesday, Mehta addressed the controversy surrounding the airline’s massive flight cancellations. He stated that IndiGo’s board has maintained close engagement with management regarding the implementation of new pilot rest-hour regulations and crew rostering rules. The chairman acknowledged that while the disruptions were significant, they were not deliberate actions by the airline.
