Flight operations at Srinagar International Airport are set to be significantly disrupted for several months beginning July 2026, as authorities undertake extensive runway maintenance work.
According to official announcements, partial closures will be implemented between July and September, during which the runway will remain unavailable twice a week. Current plans indicate that flight operations will be suspended every Monday and Tuesday throughout this three-month period.
The disruptions will escalate in October, when the airport is scheduled for a complete shutdown from October 1 for approximately two weeks to allow for critical repair and resurfacing work. During this period, all flight operations will be suspended, affecting both arrivals and departures.
Operational impact
Airport authorities have cautioned that these closures are likely to affect a large number of passengers, especially given Srinagar’s importance as a key gateway to Jammu and Kashmir. Travelers have been advised to check flight schedules regularly with airlines and stay updated through official airport communications.
The maintenance work is being carried out under the supervision of the Indian Air Force, as the airport operates as a shared military-civilian facility, making such periodic upgrades necessary for safety and long-term efficiency.
Additional considerations
- Flight schedules, including those related to Hajj pilgrim movements, are being adjusted to accommodate the operational restrictions.
- Earlier in the year, the airport had already faced restricted operating hours between April and July, indicating a phased maintenance strategy.
