Flex-fuel vehicles present a more practical solution for India compared to the introduction of E25 petrol blends, as they resolve worries around engine performance and fuel efficiency, making adoption smoother, according to Vijendra Singh, president of the All India Distillers’ Association.
The statement comes amid an ongoing nationwide controversy over the effects of 20% ethanol-blended petrol (E20) on vehicles not built to handle such fuel, with several consumers pushing for either a rollback of the initiative or the choice to purchase petrol with a lower ethanol content or none at all.
Singh, however, ruled out any rollback of the E20 programme, stating that it was not a feasible option. He suggested that owners of vehicles unsuited for the fuel should instead reach out to automobile manufacturers for support. He added that if engine tuning was necessary to accommodate the fuel, car owners should get their vehicles tuned accordingly.
