The central government has proposed extending the prescribed age limit for battery-operated, hydrogen fuel-based, and natural gas-driven vehicles by five years, as per draft amendments to the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989, issued by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways on Tuesday.
The proposed changes are part of draft rules published on August 10, with the government inviting objections and suggestions over a 30-day period. The rules will take effect only after final publication in the Official Gazette.
As per the draft, the age limits currently set for battery-operated vehicles, hydrogen fuel-based vehicles, and natural gas-powered vehicles would each be extended by five years. However, the notification does not specify what the resulting maximum permissible age would be for each vehicle category.
