Indian air travellers may have to wait longer for cheaper tickets, even once the festive travel rush is over. Aviation turbine fuel (ATF) remains expensive, the rupee is weaker, and disruptions linked to the West Asian conflict are still weighing on airline costs and available capacity.
Demand usually eases after the festive season, and that could take some pressure off ticket prices. A lasting fall in fares, however, will depend on fuel prices coming down and geopolitical disruptions easing, according to Kinjal Shah, Senior Vice President and Co-Group Head, Corporate Sector Ratings, at ICRA.
