Best Routes & Places to Ride from Bangalore
India being a sub-tropical peninsula, we as Indians are fortunate to have literally every type of landscape, be it the sea, the hills, the deserts or even the greater mountains of the himalayas. But as we travel down south to the mesmerizing land of Karnataka, due to the area becoming more tropical, of course the landscape changes, and now we welcome lush green forests, a grand coast line and not to forget the Sahyadri, also called as the western ghats.
Even though the topic of Best places for travel in Karnataka is already well-discussed, in this blog, as a fellow biker I will help you guys get a deep dive into Best places for a Bike Ride in Karnataka.
But first foremost this is Me
I am Moin Ur Rehman, the Managing Editor of the Industry Insights Magazine, but I do have an alter ego. I’m called the Rock n Roll Rider 😛, and I aspire to become a full-fledged Youtuber someday. Even though that’s quite uncertain for now, the only thing certain is the amount of experience I’ve had exploring regions across Karnataka, and especially the western ghats.
So carrying forward over 15 years of quality experience of traveling, and over 2 years of dedicated bike riding with fellow riders and my better half, here is the curated list of Best places for a Bike Ride in Karnataka. Also, importantly this blog will consider Bengaluru as the center point, as the majority of us are based out of this wonderful city, or planning to relocate here.
1. Coorg
Fondly called as the Scotland of India, Madikeri the capital city of Coorg/Kodagu District is 250-odd kms from Bengaluru town. Famous for its coffee estates, lush greenery, forests, waterfalls, and a rich cultural heritage, there is no best time to visit this place, as every season offers its unique touch. But as Coorg lies in the Malenadu region of Karnataka, it’s better to avoid visiting this place during peak monsoons, as exploring on a bike specifically becomes a tough task. But again for some riders, monsoon offers a unique experience, so you can plan accordingly.
Coorg isn’t just Madikeri but a combination of Madikeri, Virajpet, Somwarpet, Ponnampet and Kushalanagar taluks. And trust me, literally every region is different, and you have places to explore literally everywhere. Be it the Dubare Elephant camp in Kushalnagar, or Raja Seat, Mandalpatti or even Talacauvery in the Madikeri region, or even the beautiful Mallalli Falls in Somwarpet, Coorg is a region of diversity. In one line you can state, Coorg is a region which is carved by the Cauvery river, and influenced by the strong Coorgi Heritage.

3.Hampi
Hampi isn’t your typical tourist destination, as it lacks hills or a coastline, but it exudes a unique charm with its surreal landscapes along the banks of the Tungabhadra River. Once popular among backpackers on the hippie trail, Hampi still retains that bohemian spirit despite efforts to transform it into a temple town. As the former capital of the grand Vijayanagar dynasty, what remains today offers glimpses of lost glory, alongside the visible scars left by invaders.
Though it’s around 350 km from Bengaluru, the road via Hospet is excellent for a bike ride, making it to the list of Best places for a Bike Ride in Karnataka. However, be mindful of speed traps along the way and ride safely.

4.Ooty/Nilgiris
Known as the Queen of Hills, Ooty or the Nilgiris is a place which personally for me and my family again is a go-to place when we think of a vacation. Not bragging, but we’ve been here at least 50 times. All thanks to the elevation of this place, the Nilgiris offers chilly weather throughout the year, and this is one of the main reasons there is no off-season here.
Please don’t go by the main attraction list and overcrowd this beautiful place, but I sincerely suggest as a fellow rider/traveler to explore the beauty of this out of the world place on your own.
But anyhow if you want to visit the main touristy places, you can try going to these places:
- Avalanche

But before we go, let me answer few of the most asked questions in the section below:
- How to calculate petrol cost for a trip?
- If on an average your bike gives say 25 kms per liter mileage, you can reduce it by 2-3 kms/liter based on the speed you are riding on and based on the road condition (if there is too much of braking and gear changes)
- And then the calculations are as below:
- If the total distance is 500 kms and your bike gives 23 kms/liter
- Then divide total (distance/mileage) and then multiply the result with the petrol cost in your city (you will end up with 95% accurate petrol cost calculation)
2. Which is the best time to visit Kudremukh?
- Anytime between June and February. But please do check the weather forecast before proceeding with your plan. The rains in this region can sometimes be very severe, and cause problems, in terms of landslides and road blockages.
3. What is the entry fee for Hebbe Falls?
- There is no entry fees for Hebbe Falls, as this falls lies deep inside the forest. If you are a fan of trekking you can do so free of cost, but if you want to hire a jeep the cost is considerably on a higher end.
4. What is the entry fee for Kudremukh Peak?
- 200 rupees for Indian nationals, and the park is open from 10 AM–5 PM.
5. Which river is in Nisargadhama?
- Namma Jeevanadi – Kaveri flows here with all her might.
