Liquor shops in Delhi will stay closed on October 9 and 10, after the national capital declared two back-to-back dry days citing the “prevailing” situation in the city. Residents will be able to buy alcohol from retail outlets again only after October 10.
According to an order cited by news agency PTI, the Delhi government’s Excise Department took the decision as a precaution to maintain “public order,” based on inputs from the Delhi Police.
The closure comes ahead of a protest planned at Jantar Mantar on October 10, where groups are expected to demand the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over allegations linked to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
