Dr. Priyanka Garg

Obstetrician-Gynecologist - Nutema Hospital

Gynaecology may look overcrowded on paper, but India’s actual caseload around women’s health tells a different story, one that’s only climbing, driven largely by the country’s steady shift toward sedentary, urban lifestyles. Several gynaecologists point to the same conclusion, that the number of doctors in this field is nowhere near enough to meet that growing need. Against that backdrop, a doctor who combines genuine aptitude for the science with a deep, early-rooted connection to women’s health feels less like a coincidence and more like exactly what the moment calls for.

Dr. Priyanka Garg fits that description closely, and her body of work, sustained and expanding across a demanding field, earns her a place among the country’s top gynaecologists this year. She is one of Meerut’s most respected consultant obstetricians and gynaecologists, a laparoscopic and robotic surgeon operating on the most advanced 3D platform with ICG (indocyanine green) fluorescence imaging, and an expert in hysteroscopy and colposcopy at Nutema Hospital, helping women stay healthy at every stage of life.

A Household Built on Medicine

Raised in Muzaffarnagar, Dr. Priyanka Garg grew up with medicine already woven into her household, her father an Eye specialist, and that environment quietly shaped her own ambitions from childhood. She was a consistently high-performing student, part of the topper batches through school, and scored roughly 90 percent aggregate in her 12th boards. After clearing the pre-medical entrance exam, she pursued her MBBS at SMS Medical College, Jaipur, graduating as the top student across every medical college in Rajasthan that year. Her postgraduate studies followed at LLRM Medical College, Meerut, where she earned the Dr. Usha Sharma Rolling Trophy for best postgraduate. Senior residency led into a string of fellowships, including a diploma in endoscopy from Keil’s, Germany. She married Dr. Priyank Garg, who comes from a family of doctors, and she credits her in-laws with helping her “achieve the unachievable” by supporting her through further fellowships after marriage.

A Day in the Life at Nutema

Since the time Dr. Garg came aboard at Nutema Hospital, her typical day runs on a demanding rhythm. Mornings open with surgeries from 8 to 11, followed by outpatient consultations through the early afternoon until 4 pm, after which she’s back in the operating theatre. Evenings, from 7 to 8, are reserved for working patients seeing her by appointment, and on certain days she doesn’t leave the hospital until as late as 10 pm. While Nutema remains her primary base, she also steps in as a visiting faculty surgeon at select nearby corporate hospitals, filling a gap in the region where laparoscopic surgeons aren’t always available on staff.

Clinically, her work at Nutema spans a wide spectrum, from managing high-risk pregnancies to running a dedicated laparoscopy practice covering PCOD, endometriosis, adenomyosis, fibroids, ovarian cysts, and both benign and malignant ovarian masses, along with mesh repair of prolapse and the correction of uterine problems such as septum, polyps and other uterine anomalies. The hospital also houses focused reproductive health and menopausal health clinics, with treatment approaches ranging from medication to hysteroscopy, laparoscopy, or robotic surgery depending on the condition. It’s this breadth, paired with her surgical expertise, that has helped establish Nutema as one of the region’s stronger centres for gynaecological endoscopic care.

When the Stakes Are Highest

When asked about a case that reaffirmed her choice of specialty, Dr. Garg doesn’t have to think far back. “Almost every month, there’s a case that pushes our limits, technically difficult or challenging to diagnose,” she says. One that stayed with her involved a young PhD student carrying a 25-centimetre fibroid, large enough to resemble a full-term pregnancy. Unwilling to accept a large incision, the patient’s case became one they tackled entirely through laparoscopy, drawing on the full extent of the team’s skill and equipment. “When I later checked, I realised it was something that hadn’t quite been done this way anywhere else in the world,” she notes. Beyond singular milestones like that one, her days also involve patients referred in after complications from procedures performed elsewhere, occasionally in situations where survival itself is on the line. Stepping into those cases, sometimes requiring re-surgery, and ultimately restoring both life and quality of life, is what she points to as the real reason this profession matters to her. “Women’s health,” she says simply, “is too important to compromise on.”

Beyond the Hospital Doors

Dr. Priyanka Garg’s commitment to women’s health doesn’t end at the hospital doors. “Awareness is incredibly important in India,” she says, pointing to conditions like endometriosis and the role of HPV vaccination in preventing cervical cancer, “and I stay quite active on this front despite a heavy clinical caseload.” That involvement takes formal shape through her roles as Secretary of the Meerut Obstetrics & Gynaecological Society and Joint Secretary of the UP Chapter of Obstetrics & Gynaecology, alongside her work guiding aspiring gynaecologists through EAGLE, an endoscopy training programme. Through these platforms, she’s helped run HPV awareness drives across a wide spectrum of schools, from well-resourced institutions like KL International School and army schools to lower-income community schools. An anaemia screening and awareness campaign she helped launch was flagged off across Uttar Pradesh alongside actress Karishma Kapoor, and her outreach extends into dietary education too, flagging simple but overlooked issues like how overcooking destroys nutritional value and undermines iron absorption. That message has taken her to conference lecture halls across the country, from Delhi, Mumbai, Pune and Kolkata to Lucknow, Kanpur, Prayagraj, Gorakhpur, Noida, Greater Noida, Bareilly, Moradabad, Dehradun, Roorkee, Muzaffarnagar, Saharanpur and Hapur, as well as smaller towns such as Bijnor, Chandausi and Kashipur. Beyond her own operation theatre, she also taught through live surgeries conducted at various medical colleges, with her procedures even being broadcast at Bharat Mandapam, Delhi.

Away from medicine, she finds her own balance in dancing and time spent with friends, alongside sketching and painting, hobbies she admits she indulges in less often these days, though music and dance remain constants. She still shows up for dance events whenever she can, a small, joyful counterweight to a career built almost entirely around other people’s wellbeing, and, by her own account, exactly what keeps her feeling whole. Her family carries the same drive. Her daughter, Priyanjali, is following in her parents’ footsteps and pursuing her MBBS at Lady Hardinge Medical College, New Delhi, while her son aspires to become an aerospace engineer.
