Apple’s strategy to diversify its manufacturing footprint is showing results, with 2.9 million iPhones shipped from India to the US in April, marking a 76% year-on-year surge, according to market research firm Omdia. This comes even as former President Donald Trump continued to press for more local production in the US. Despite the political pressure, Apple has remained committed to meeting American demand through its growing operations in India, underscoring its broader move away from overdependence on China.
Reflecting this strategic shift, China’s iPhone exports to the US plummeted 76%, dropping from 3.7 million units a year ago to just 900,000 in April. Industry analysts expect similar export numbers from India in May, as Apple continues to scale up production outside of China. Counterpoint Research backed these findings, estimating iPhone shipments from India to the US in April to be between 2.9 and 3 million units.
