Permanent Representative of India to the United Nations, Parvathaneni Harish, demonstrated a strong stand against Pakistan’s statements at the United Nations Security Council. On December 15, 2025, Pakistan’s Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad raised the topics of Jammu and Kashmir and the Indus Waters Treaty during an open debate on ‘Leadership for Peace’. The Pakistani envoy stated that the situation of Jammu and Kashmir should be settled based on the UN Charter, relevant Security Council resolution and the will of the Kashmiri people.
Harish, in defence, pointed out that Pakistan has a unique way of respecting the will of its people. Political acts like jailing a prime minister, banning the ruling political party, and letting its military take over the constitutional governance and giving life-time immunity to its Chief of Defence Forces. The Indian Ambassador made it very clear that the Union territories, Ladakh, Jammu and Kashmir are, and will always be an integral part of India, both geographically and in spirit. Regarding the Indus Waters Treaty, the Indian Ambassador clearly stated that India would counter all forms of Pakistan-sponsored terrorist acts with all its might. Historical representation states numerous Pakistan-sponsored terrorism attacks on India, the recent one being the religion-based Pahalgam Incident, where over 26 innocent lives were brutally killed. India announced that until Pakistan takes credible steps to end cross-border terrorism, the treaty will be suspended inevitably.
