The coal ministry announced on Thursday that domestic coal supplies for the power sector remained healthy through July, with total available stocks reaching approximately 148 million tonnes (MT), sufficient to cover roughly 62 days of consumption.
This comfortable buffer comes on the back of strong growth in coal production, despatch, and receipts across the country.
As of August 4, thermal power plants held coal stocks of 34.55 MT, while an additional 113 MT was available at pitheads and in transit. Combined, this brings the total accessible supply to nearly 148 MT.
According to the coal ministry, this stockpile provides an adequate cushion to meet the power sector’s coal requirements for close to two months, ensuring supply stability going forward.
