The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) will take on Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the opening match of IPL 2025. A total of ten teams will compete in the tournament, with the top four advancing to the playoffs. The playoff matches are set to be held in Hyderabad and Kolkata.
KKR enters the tournament as the defending champions, having secured their third IPL title by defeating Sunrisers Hyderabad by eight wickets in the 2024 final in Chennai. They now trail only Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings, who each have five titles.
Sunrisers Hyderabad, Deccan Chargers, Rajasthan Royals, and Gujarat Titans have each won the IPL once, while Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Lucknow Super Giants, Punjab Kings, and Delhi Capitals are still chasing their maiden title.
