Koffee With Karan Season 9, hosted by Karan Johar, premiered on October 14. In a first, Reliance-owned JioHotstar has partnered with NBCUniversal to back a homegrown show, a move being seen as a significant moment for Indian original IP.
“For the first time, The Peacock Hub goes beyond being a destination for global content in India to support a locally produced Indian original,” JioHotstar said in a press statement.
JioHotstar and NBCUniversal launched The Peacock Hub in India in 2023. Since then, it has added Peacock Originals such as All Her Fault, PONIES, The Copenhagen Test and The Five Star Weekend to JioHotstar’s library.
Who’s on the couch this season
Billed as the show’s final season, Koffee With Karan is expected to feature some of the biggest names in Indian cinema across more than a dozen episodes.
Salman Khan opens the season with a solo episode. In a full-circle moment, Shah Rukh Khan, who was the show’s first-ever guest alongside Kajol in 2003, is set to be the final guest. He has reportedly already shot parts of his episode at Yash Raj Studios in Mumbai, where the set has been built. He may be joined by daughter Suhana Khan for the rapid-fire round, ahead of their joint appearance in King.
The season will also feature several couple episodes. Kareena Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan are set to appear together, as are expecting parents Kiara Advani and Sidharth Malhotra. Rashmika Mandanna and Vijay Deverakonda are also locked in, while Alia Bhatt will appear with her sister, Shaheen Bhatt.
Filmmaker SS Rajamouli is also widely expected to feature, possibly with Mahesh Babu, the star of his upcoming film Varanasi.
