Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday launched Maruti Suzuki’s much-anticipated electric SUV, the *e-Vitara*, from the company’s Hansalpur facility in Gujarat. The event also marked the inauguration of a state-of-the-art plant dedicated to producing hybrid battery electrodes, underscoring India’s accelerating push toward green mobility.
The rollout of the *e-Vitara* not only marks a milestone for the country’s electric vehicle ecosystem but also opens the door for exports of Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs) to more than 100 countries. Calling it “a special day in India’s quest for self-reliance,” Modi emphasized that such initiatives reinforce India’s vision of becoming a global hub for sustainable mobility solutions.
The dual launch of an EV model with export potential and a manufacturing unit for advanced EV components, reflects the government’s strategy to strengthen domestic capabilities in clean energy technologies while boosting international competitiveness.
