Uber Technologies has laid off 10% of its customer service staff, joining a growing list of companies attributing job cuts directly to artificial intelligence as the tech industry restructures its workforce around automation. The cuts, confirmed on Wednesday, affected the company’s community operations team.
According to a statement from an Uber spokesperson reported by Bloomberg, the company is aiming to streamline its operations, boost in-office collaboration, and further integrate AI into its work. Alongside the layoffs, remote employees on the affected team have been instructed to relocate to one of Uber’s hub offices, in keeping with the company’s broader return-to-office mandate.
