Many international and domestic firms that formerly sourced their clothing from Bangladesh are now turning to Indian producers to satisfy their demand as they become more uneasy about the ongoing unrest in the neighboring nation.
According to Surat textile industry insiders, these companies are contacting them about producing and supplying ready-to-wear clothing. They predict that if these become orders, Surat’s apparel industry might develop at a faster pace of 20–25% annually instead of the present 12%. They suggested that fresh orders might also help textile centers in Tamil Nadu, Punjab, and Noida.
