2020 was a year to remember! Pandemic blues, stuck at home, but as Sony console gamers, we were in for a treat. Be it the most awaited sequel of one of the best games I’ve ever played – Last of Us, or the shocker of a game which some people till date call the best of best – Sucker Punch’s Ghost of Tsushima. 

Released on July 20th, Ghost of Tsushima was one hell of an experience, where we all got to play as Samurai Jin Sakai, who was constantly struggling between protecting his heritage of honor and what’s right. Eventually becoming the Ghost, Sucker Punch crafted a visually stunning masterpiece, be it lush sceneries and landscapes, where every frame felt like a god damn painting, and every step on foot or on your horsie, further immersed all of us into a rich culture and history of feudal Japan. Slowly witnessing the Mongols take over our homeland was frustrating, but getting to take revenge through and through was totally worth it. And as I particularly played on the hardest of difficulty modes, I got a feeling that the developers did understand my needs for some real challenge. 

Having clocked around 67+ hours into the game, and even doing the Iki Island expansion, when Sucker Punch eventually announced that they were working on a sequel, there wasn’t such excitement I felt for a long-long time 😛 

And finally here we are 5 years fast forward from the first game, waiting eagerly with our controllers already gripped in our hands for the anticipated – Ghost of Yōtei, or as some are even calling it – Ghost of Tsushima 2. 

When is the Ghost of Yōtei release date

Ghost of Yōtei is set to release worldwide on October 2nd 2025, which co-incidentally is Gandhi Jayanthi too, which means a public holiday, and which also means, we get to clock a few hours right on the launch day 🥹 Also, for peeps from Bengaluru, there is a special midnight launch event being organized at Venus Games and Electronics, Church street on 1st October midnight. So me – Rock n Roll Gamer will be there to pick up my brand new disk and some goodies of course, I seriously wish to see you there too. 

Where to Buy Ghost of Yōtei (Pre-Order Guide)

Ghost of Yōtei Standard Edition

The game is being sold online on several platforms, including Amazon, at the retail price of  Rs. 5,199 (standard edition), and will be live on Oct 2, 2025, and might reach you 2-3 days from the launch date, based on where you live. However, you always have an option of heading to your nearest gaming store and picking the cd first hand on the launch day as well, and the costing will remain the same across.

Ghost of Yōtei Digital Edition

Similarly the game will be live and purchasable on the Sony official website at Rs. 4,999 (digital edition) and the Digital Deluxe Edition will be available at Rs. 5,499. The Digital Deluxe Edition will obviously come with in-game add-ons, which include The Snake Armor, Digital Deluxe Armor Dye, Digital Deluxe Horse & Saddle, Sword Kit, Traveler’s Maps (Early Unlock) and a Charm. Importantly, please note that if you pre-order any version of Ghost of Yōtei digital parallels, you will get the Atsu + Yōtei Six Avatar Set (7x) and an in-game Mask.

Ghost of Yōtei Collector’s Edition

For the rich souls and pockets and hardcore fans, there is a Collector’s Edition available as well, which is priced at  $299.99 USD. As of now, this edition isn’t available anywhere in India, but can be imported through mx2games website which is priced at a whopping ₹51,099, which is non-cancellable post placing the order, so plan and order accordingly. 

How to install Ghost of Yōtei on PS5?

I don’t know why this question has to be even answered, but I want my blog to rank on Google bro, so here I am.

Let us split this answer based on the versions of purchase:

1. Standard Edition

For standard edition the process is pretty simple:

Step 1: Insert the disc in the slot given, duhh!

Step 2: Wait for the whirling sound of the disk, and the game icon to popup, with the of course crazy bgm to start playing

Step 3: Click on the icon if you are the impatient one, and the notification will be liked – brooo i’m doing my work, please wait, or go play another game till then

Step 4: Once the installation is complete you will get a notification, and you can finally launch the awaited game of Ghost of Yōtei, yippee!

2. Digital Edition

Here the process is same-same but different:

Step 1: Buy the game from PS store

Step 2: The buy icon on the game page will change to play icon

Step 3: I hope you know what to do next?

Step 4: Wait for maybe 15-20 mins for it to finish the whole installation process and then launch the game, and be a noob 😛

What’s New in Ghost of Yōtei 2025

Even though technically you can call this game Ghost of Tsushima 2. In reality, the Ghost of Yōtei game is set 300 years after the Jin Sakai adventure. It’s a standalone vengeance game set in 1600s rural Japan, where we all get to play as Atsu, who apart from being a kickass, is a vengeful spirit travelling through the northern edge of Japan, in the vicinity of Mount Yōtei. Our end game will most probably be to hunt down the gang of six outlaws, who call themselves The Yōtei 6, but let’s be ready to expect the unexpected.

Suckerpunch has promised to offer something different this time, with letting players engage in combat based on their liking, rather than sticking to the designated ways. From melee weapons including regular and dual Katanas and even a spear like weapon I’m already excited about the possibilities this game has to offer. As this game is based in a time when firearms were probably the new way of putting a person or animal down, you can let your Atsu become a trigger heavy matchlock pro as well. 

The developers have gone one step further with this one, letting us find a friendly companion in a wolf, who will assist us in fights. Weww! This will be something to really look forward to, I really hope they deliver. 

There are a few other important updates this time with tracking of missions using cards, and the brand new camping feature will let you more than relax, rather, find a friendly merchant, or become an alchemy queen. 

Ghost of Yōtei Multiplayer Mode

The good news doesn’t end here quite literally. For all the game owners, a free co-op DLC is scheduled for release in 2026, ironically called – The Legends.

This mode will include two-player story quests and survival match mode which can accommodate up-to four-players, where we will be competing against supernatural enemies, similar to what we got in Ghost of Tsushima.
