Garment manufacturing facilities across Bangladesh resumed operations on Monday following extensive temporary shutdowns and production halts a day prior. Despite the reopening, factory owners and exporters remain uneasy about potential further disruptions due to ongoing worker demands for increased minimum wages.
The ready-made garment (RMG) industry serves as the backbone of Bangladesh’s economy, contributing roughly 10% to the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP). Additionally, it employs around 4 million individuals and drives over 80% of total national export earnings.
