The historic first official residence of India’s first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, located at 17 York Road (now Motilal Nehru Marg) in Delhi’s prestigious Lutyens’ Bungalow Zone, is set to change ownership in what is reportedly the most expensive residential property deal in India.
The expansive bungalow, spread over nearly 3.7 acres, has been sold for approximately Rs 1,100 crore. This sale surpasses all previous records for residential property transactions in the country. The current owners, Rajkumari Kakkar and Bina Rani, hailing from a royal family in Rajasthan, finalized the deal with a prominent businessman from the beverage industry after nearly a year of negotiations.
Situated in a highly exclusive area designed by British architect Edwin Lutyens, the property’s prime location, size, and historical significance have made it a coveted asset, attracting only ultra-wealthy buyers. The transaction is now in its final legal stages, poised to set a new benchmark in India’s luxury real estate market.
