JioStar Plans to Withdraw Entertainment Content from YouTube to Curb Subscriber Migration

JioStar Plans to Withdraw Entertainment Content from YouTube to Curb Subscriber Migration

In a strategic move to reduce subscriber migration from linear TV to free digital streaming, JioStar is reportedly considering removing its entertainment content from the Google-owned platform YouTube.

The company may implement this decision starting May 1, although a final decision is yet to be confirmed.

This marks the second major move by JioStar, which emerged from the merger of Disney’s Star India and Reliance Industries’ Viacom18.

The decision follows JioStar’s earlier move to introduce a paywall on JioHotstar, ending its two-year run of offering premium content — including sports — for free. This previous strategy had significantly impacted both pay-TV and SVOD (Subscription Video on Demand) services.
