Reliance teams up with cricketer Muttiah Muralitharan to disrupt sports drinks market

Reliance Consumer Products Ltd (RCPL) has joined forces with legendary Sri Lankan cricketer Muttiah Muralitharan to develop, manufacture, and market a new sports drink brand in India called Spinner. This collaboration aims to offer an affordable and accessible hydration solution for athletes and fitness enthusiasts across the country.

According to executives familiar with the plans, Spinner will be competitively priced at just ₹10 for a 150 ml bottle—roughly half the cost of established international sports drink brands like Gatorade and Powerade, which are sold by PepsiCo and Coca-Cola. By positioning itself as a budget-friendly alternative, RCPL aims to disrupt the sports beverage segment, making performance hydration more widely available to Indian consumers.
