Singapore-based investor Temasek Holdings is competing with ChrysCapital for a chance to invest between Rs 1,000-1,200 crore in Blue Tokai Coffee Roasters, valuing the company at Rs 3,550-3,700 crore and positioning the winning investor as its largest single shareholder. The homegrown specialty coffee chain, now in its 13th year of operations and considered a major rival to Starbucks in the Indian market, has been actively courting growth equity investors after achieving monthly profitability over the past six months.
The company is looking to raise capital to triple the number of its stores across India, extend its footprint into Japan and the UAE, and provide an exit opportunity for its early seed investors. The funding round is anticipated to result in a single investor acquiring a 30-33% stake in the company, though this could also be divided between two investors to broaden the company’s ownership structure.
